Why Rafa Nadal—and property buyers–fall in love with Pollensa

Last month, the world’s press turned the spotlight on the area as the Mallorcan tennis star, Rafael Nadal, celebrated his marriage to his long-term girlfriend. The couple took their vows in La Fortaleza, one of Pollensa’s most spectacular settings overlooking the Bay of Pollensa. La Fortaleza is a 17th century fort which was made famous during its starring role in the BBC thriller The Night Manager. Regularly cited as one of Spain’s most expensive properties, it was bought by Lord Lupton, a British banker, in 2011. It boasts two pools, seven villas and a series of spectacular terraces overlooking the sea. Earlier in the summer, La Fortaleza also hosted the wedding of premiership footballer Gareth Bale.
