Every year, the team at Engel & Völkers Mallorca North are helping more and more families from all over Europe relocate to live full-time in the town of Pollensa and Alcudia as well as surrounding villages including Campanet, Sa Pobla. Along with a large international year-round community, there are plenty of opportunities to take part in sport and outdoor activities, wonderful local beaches and—crucially for anyone who travels a lot–the region is only a 45-minute drive from Palma and Mallorca’s international airport.
Mallorca is one of the best-connected islands of the Mediterranean enjoying unparalleled flight connections to all of Europe’s major cities. As many of them lie within a two- to three-hour flight, it’s no wonder that the island has become a base for businessmen and women who base their families on the island and commute each week to work in different parts of the continent.
As flexible working schedules and super-fast internet connections have widened and expanded, more families are choosing to live full-time in Mallorca and recently the Mallorca North region has opened up the necessary infrastructure to make this move not just a dream but a reality.
Education is naturally a major factor when considering relocating a family to a new country. Mallorca International School, known locally as Myschool, is the island’s newest. Opened in September 2016 and located close to Pollensa, the independent, fee-paying school follows the British National Curriculum educating children from the Early Years Foundation (nursery and Reception) through to primary and a growing secondary school.
Alongside the academic syllabus, the school runs trips to museums, activity centres, farms and factories. Residential trips are organised for the older students and excursions into the spectacular Tramuntana mountains ensure that students make the most of the special setting.
Another important consideration for any family considering moving to Mallorca North is the availability of healthcare. Muro general hospital is part of the Juaneda Healthcare network, the main private healthcare provider for the Balearic Islands with doctors and consultants who speak English, French, German and Italian, alongside Spanish. With extensive experience in treating both national and international patients, the hospital already accepts a number of insurance policies including those of BUPA, AXA, Cigna International, Medicare and Alllianz Worldwide, among others.
One of the many reasons that families are drawn to the region is that it offers an insight into authentic Mallorca. The northern area is blessed with traditional festivals and celebrations that take place throughout the year from the festival of Sant Antonio on January 16 through to Pollensa’s famous La Patrona celebrations in August. Other events include sailing and seafood fairs in Alcudia and the classical music festival held every summer in Formentor.
