Christmas time is just around the corner and here in Mallorca we are already very excited about it.
Even though temperatures are comparably mild, we celebrate it with all its traditions and wonderful customs of the festive season.
This year the famous Christmas lights of Palma de Mallorca were lit on the 28th of November at 7 pm. From this day on, the Christmas spirit and joy is omnipresent in the capital city and all over the island. Glowing lights, decorations and nativity scenes can be found in every town, as well as Christmas Markets, wonderful scents and delicious traditional cuisine
.
- The Pueblo Español Christmas Market in Palma features more than 80 stalls with hand-made decorations and gifts, drinks, typical food and live music. This year it will be open from the 5th to the 15th of December.
- Alaró Christmas Market includes over 60 stalls with local hand-crafted products, designer goods and lovely gifts. It takes place on the 15th and 16th of December.
- El Canto de la Sibila on the 24th of December is an amazing celebration happening in all churches of the island. It is a “liturgical drama” performed a capella by a young singer accompanied by 2 other voices and an organ. A tradition that is happening in Mallorca since the Middle Ages.
- The Three Kings Parade (Three Wise Men) takes place in all cities, towns and villages. The Three kings lead a fantastic parade riding on their carriages giving sweets to children. This is the most magical night of the year for families and children in Spain as they receive presents brought by the holy Three Wise Men.
