Engel & Völkers Mallorca > Social Responsibility

¡Gracias Mallorca!

At Engel & Völkers Mallorca we understand just how fortunate we are to live in one of the most privileged areas of the Mediterranean with its beautiful climate, stunning coastline and landscapes including the island’s famous Sierra Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Helping protect Mallorca’s natural beauty is at the heart of the Engel & Völkers Mallorca social mission and is our way to say “thank you” to the island and everyone who lives here. Our management philosophy is to ensure an overall positive impact on society and the sustainable future development in Mallorca. It is therefore our mission to operate our business responsibly with the aim of conserving the island’s amazing beauty and environmental quality.

Engel & Völkers Mallorca is donating from each sale to the Mallorca Preservation Foundation

Mallorca is home to people from all over the world who share the same passion to preserve the natural beauty of the island. Mallorca Preservation was created in 2017 with the aim of conserving the amazing beauty of Mallorca in an attempt to transform it into a sustainable management model for the island and to bring about long-lasting positive change. Mallorca Preservation guarantees that 100% of your donation will go directly to selected local environmental projects that protect the natural environment of Mallorca and help revert the impact of human action on the island’s ecosystems. For more information please visit mallorcapreservation.org. To join the movement, do not hesitate to donate now!

Engel & Völkers Mallorca is joining the plastic prevention movement by Cleanwave

The Cleanwave Foundation was founded by Line Hadsbjerg and Philipp Baier and sets out to reconnect people to nature. The Foundation was initially started in response to the growing plastic crisis across the Balearic Islands, which threatens the fragile ecosystem on Mallorca. The plastic prevention initiative, Cleanwave.org sets out to provide alternatives to single-use plastic, and has set up a network of water refill points and public fountains across the islands. The work of Cleanwave and others has produced concrete results and since March 2021 the Balearic Government has banned the sale of single-use plastic. The foundation believes that the only way to change people’s minds is by touching their hearts so Cleanwave Education is committed to providing eco-emotional workshops to both schools and companies.

Engel & Völkers Mallorca also rides the wave towards a plastic free world together with Cleanwave. We have installed sustainable drinking water fountains and reusable eco-friendly bottles in our property shops on the island. This initiative means that thousands of plastic bottles will not enter the island's environment and many homeowners, plus future buyers, will experience modern and sustainable drinking water production. For more information, access Cleanwave.org

Engel & Völkers Mallorca is engaging in local charity work

Families are at the very heart of Engel & Völkers in Mallorca and supporting local community projects is an integral part of the company’s philosophy. Therefore, Engel & Völkers Mallorca welcomes the opportunity to be involved in the Aldeas Children’s Help Centre project as part of an ongoing programme. Since 2018, Engel & Völkers has established a strong working relationship with the centre’s manager, Encarnación Jiménez, who is heading up the first project of its kind in Palma that provides day care for some 70 children most in need from ages 5 – 14 years.

Financial & material donations and volunteer work by Engel & Völkers:

- one-time donation of computers and a kitchen for the center

- continous donation of clothes & toys and other necessities

- special Christmas event with hot chocholate and presents children wished for (organized by E&V volunteers)

- donation of a school trip

- social sustainability

Engel & Völkers Mallorca keeps reducing its carbon footprint by working with local and social businesses

The planet's future lays in our hands. Only by combining our efforts we can achieve necessary change and Engel & Völkers Mallorca wants to contribute to a brighter, more sustainable future for us but foremost our children. Therefore we are constantly looking for ways to minimise our carbon footprint but also to increase any positive impact on climate and society. An overall and steady reduction of emissions became a natural part in our daily practise. Besides avoiding waste and the use of plastic we also seek to minimise printing in all our offices, even our marketing campaigns. We generally use carbon neutral shipping and opt for eco-friendly printing whenever offered, as we believe the benefits easily outweigh higher costs. We always prefer to work with local businesses which keeps transportation distances short and allows the islands’ people to become a part of the flourishing and increasingly sustainable economy on Mallorca. A great example is our continuous work with "Esment", a foundation that has built an entire network of various social projects and businesses – including a professional print shop run by people with disabilities, producing results of seamlessly high quality while reflecting the vision of a better, more inclusive world brought to reality.
