Top 6 locations to visit during summer

Summer in Mallorca is pure bliss. With clear blue skies, perpetual sunshine and a plethora of beaches to explore, the largest Balearic island in the Mediterranean is a magnetic destination during the warmer months. As there are countless places to visit, we have created a carefully curated list of our top 6 summer locations that you should absolutely not miss. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

1. Palma de Mallorca - Palma Cathedral/ The Old Town

Palma’s Old Town, the historical part of the island’s capital city, is an enchanting maze of labyrinthine streets that is perfect for exploring at any time of day. Begin at Placa Cort, an elegant cobbled plaza with a 600 year old olive tree and enjoy a coffee at one of the bustling cafés. Soak in the historical sights of the nineteenth century buildings and the grand town hall before walking down towards Palma’s La Seu Cathedral, the golden sandstone Gothic masterpiece that dominates the waterfront. Construction began in 1229 when Jaume I of Aragón beat the Moors in battle and the building took 500 years, with late additions from famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. The exterior stone carvings are exquisite and the magnificent interiors include the famous stained glass Rose Window that directly catches the light only twice a year. Explore the narrow streets of the Old Town and steal a peek through ornate arched gateways of the aristocratic Renaissance-style mansions. Soak in the rich culture and history of the city by making a stop at the Banys Àrabs, the Museu de Mallorca and the many splendid churches like Eglésia de Santa Eulalia, located in a lively square that is the perfect spot for lunch in the shade of the trees. 2. Portixol

Portixol is a picture-perfect former fishing village on the eastern outskirts of Palma. From the Cathedral, walk or cycle through Parc de Mar, a pretty open area with palm trees and a manmade lake, and along the Paseo Maritimo, the seafront promenade towards Portixol. Pass by the city beach where locals play volleyball or rollerblade, round the small marina with fishing boats bobbing up and down in the water, to the charming fishing village with vibrant cafés, exclusive restaurants and hotels like Hotel Portixol. The picture-perfect beach is perfect for a swim before a cold drink in Enco or a traditional Mallorcan sandwich in nearby Es Vaixell, where you can sit outside and watch the world go by.
