You have probably read before that Mallorca is a beautiful island in the Mediterranean with spectacular beaches and a large mountain range, which is protected by UNESCO. This place on earth that we are lucky enough to call our home is, in fact, an island with a rare combination when it comes down to landscape. And it has been that rare combination that has pinpointed Mallorca as one of the favourite places for cyclists from all over the world. Not only professional cycling teams visit the island to prepare for races, but also amateur cyclists looking to enjoy themselves on a bike-friendly holiday have chosen Mallorca and this has set our island on the cycling-radar.
One of the main reasons why Mallorca has become a hot spot for cycling is the fantastic weather. It is rare to find many rainy days on the island and even though it snows (just a couple of days) in the highest areas of the Tramuntana mountain range in Winter, it rarely affects the cycling routes so many cyclists are here for. In Autumn and in Spring the temperature is just perfect, as you can count on the minimum to be about 14 degrees and the medium temperature about 20 degrees. The official reports say that Mallorca has a medium temperature of 16 to 18 degrees all year long.
Another one of the reasons why Mallorca is a cycling paradise is the existence of varied quiet roads. With spectacular scenery, this beautiful island has it all: there are rolling low hills, a pan-flat plain and a stunning mountain range. In addition to the variety, Mallorca is filled with great roads as diverse as the countryside, offering a perfect place for all kinds of cyclists.
Last, but not least, it is important for you to know that Mallorca is a bike-friendly island. For a decade, this island has hosted pros and, as a consequence, it has also become one of the most popular cycling-destinations in Europe. In Mallorca the contribution visiting cyclists make to the economy is highly valued, which is why the government has invested in keeping the roads smooth and repaired. Hotels, restaurants and citizens have also joined the trend and have prepared this island to be as bike-friendly as possible.
If you’re into cycling and this is a sport you enjoy as much as possible, it is probably a good time for you to think about investing in a property on the island. Even though there are different areas that could interest you according to your needs (please check out our article ‘Moving to Mallorca? Engel & Völkers shows you Mallorca’s 6 top locations to live’), we would highly suggest to look for a property in the areas of Pollença/Alcúdia, Santa Maria or Deià/Sóller.
Puerto de Pollensa and Puerto de Alcúdia, located at the northern tip of Mallorca, are popular destinations for cyclists. Due to its location close to the coast and on the edge of the Tramuntana Mountains, it allows you to choose between a flat or mountainous road to follow and there are some marked cycle routes in the area.
If you happen to fall in love with the area you can check out our spectacular properties in Pollensa!
Santa Maria and Alaró are both located on the southern edge of the Tramuntana mountains. While the mountains are easily accessible, including the Coll d'Orient and Coll de sa Batalla, Alaró is also an excellent choice for an easy cycling experience. There are several flat and gently rolling routes around the town, following picturesque country lanes.
Rustic, charming and spectacular, with views of the World Heritage site, the Tramuntana Mountains, Alaró and Santa Maria is a diamond in Mallorca’s crown and a wonderful area to live in: With excellent road and train links to the cosmopolitan capital Palma and breathtaking views of the Tramuntana mountains, both locations are highly desirable to real estate investors. Take a look at the properties in Santa Maria and Alaró.
If you’re a climber when it comes down to cycling, Puerto de Sóller, for example, is an excellent location with routes to Puig Major, Coll de Sóller and Sa Calobra all easily accessible. The scenery around Deià and Valldemossa is one of the most stunning backdrops for cycling, providing different types of routes.
The west coast of Mallorca is filled with beautiful and surprising spots to discover and if you’ve been dreaming about owning a home in this area, around Sóller, Valldemossa or Deià, we will make sure you find exactly what you have been looking for among our properties.
