More and more people are travelling to Mallorca by private jet, a factor that further indicates that the island has established itself as a destination of the highest standard. Mallorcair FBO handles most of the private jet movements and since last year, Engel & Völkers Mallorca has been collaborating with this family business. Private air transport to Mallorca has grown continuously over the past few years. However, at the beginning of the pandemic, this trend increased rapidly as high net worth individuals (HNWI) opted for the additional safety of private transfers. Consequently, the number of private movements increased in 2021 by 95 percent in comparison to the previous year. Compared to the pre-pandemic year, the number of private movements rose by 55 percent in 2021, as confirmed by figures provided by the Spanish Airports Authority (AENA). Most of the private jets landing in Palma come from Germany, England, Spain, Switzerland, Russia, and the USA. The top routes are from: Munich, Stuttgart, Cologne, Hamburg, Zurich, Vienna, London, Paris, Nice, Cannes, Ibiza, Madrid, and the coastal city of Olbia in northeast Sardinia.
“The increased number of arrivals by private jet corresponds with Mallorca’s development into a luxurious and quality-oriented travel destination with exclusive boutique hotels, restaurants, shopping opportunities, as well as sports facilities and events amidst a Mediterranean atmosphere,” explains Florian Hofer, Managing Director of Engel & Völkers in the Balearics. Hofer looks back on a record year: “Last year, we achieved the highest turnover in our 30-year history in Mallorca.” A factor that is also associated with the spike in wealthy investors’ interest: “In 2021, we sold more properties in the premium segment than ever before.” Collaboration with Mallorcair FBO is an important step; we can pool synergies and provide our customers with comprehensive services, which meet their demands and cater to their limited time resources.”
With more than 30 years’ experience, Mallorcair FBO is the island’s leading company for handling private flights and manages most of the private air transport from its offices in Palma. “It is a family business. Down to earth, very discrete, highly professional. We are connected by mutual values,” comments Hofer when describing the partnership. In order to cater to the higher level of demand, Mallorcair FBO has taken inspiration from the world’s most appealing airports and re-designed its FBO facilities. Today, an extensively renovated VIP lounge awaits passengers in Palma’s General Aviation Terminal. Special workspaces have been created for crews, including a meeting room and a private relaxation/sleeping room, as well as service rooms with showers.
