Can you imagine a romantic summer evening in your dreamlike villa in Mallorca without a glass of premium wine? Just in time for the summer season, we at Engel & Völkers Mallorca Southwest would like to introduce you to the winery Son Prim, which is located in the middle of the island on the Pla de Mallorca. The region is known for the traditional wine-growing as well as the wine-making which was and still is managed by families of the surrounding villages.
In the earlie 90s, Jaime Llabrés planted a small piece of land with different varieties of vine, including Prensal, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Syrah, Cabernet and Merlot. His intention was to find out whether the Mediterranean climate in Mallorca is suitable for winegrowing or not. After the processing and ripening process of the variety of wines, Jaime Llabrés found himself being rather surprised by the taste and quality of the cultivated vines. In the mid-1990s, the entire family eventually took part in the winegrowing and the entire production process.
For the purely manual process of producing the wines, the vineyard Son Prim uses strictly selected, high quality grapes from their own cultivation. Only ripe and healthy grapes are used to produce this superb wine in order to ensure the remarkable taste.
To produce intense wines with good aging potential, the winery relies on a cold mash, temperature-controlled fermentation and a long-lasting contact with the grape skin. After the production process, the wine is stored in barrels. Clarification products or enzymes are not used during production and filtering methods are only used to a certain extend to obtain the wines natural.
The grapevines are watered mainly during the early stage of growth. To store as much rainwater as possible and thus promote the development of healthy roots, the soil consists of hard red clay. In order to protect the vines from vermin, the Son Prim wine estate operates with the motto: "Prevention is better than cure." Therefore, traditional and environmentally friendly methods such as flowers of sulphur, copper and a Bordeaux mixture are used for pest control. This gentle and natural production of the wines assures you the full aroma and taste of the fruits. The solid structure certainly convinces every wine lover.
