The best corners of Spain to get through winter

Thinking of Spain in climatic terms is often synonymous with imagining vast beaches of fine sand, beautiful terraces in the busiest parts of cities, and endless outdoor activities. Of course, to continue experiencing such idyllic moments during the winter months, it would be wise to choose the city or region to settle in carefully. Fortunately, Spain offers a number of regions that boast all-year-round sunshine.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
The Canary Islands are a sure bet to enjoy a pleasant climate throughout the year. The two largest cities of the archipelago also offer a generous range of amenities for the residents to enjoy. Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the largest city in this autonomous community, has average temperatures that range from 17ºC (January and February) to 25ºC (July and August). The warmth of the sun is also experienced in Canary Islands' other major city; Las Palmas de Gran Canaria enjoys all-year-round sunshine with temperatures between 18ºC and 24ºC.

Lanzarote and the rest of the Canarian archipelago
Lanzarote is the easternmost region of the Canary Islands and, precisely because of its greater proximity to Africa, it has higher average temperatures. Lovers of warm weather will enjoy mild temperatures between 20ºC and 29ºC. As for the rest of the Canary Islands, those who like to live in quieter places but without the heatwave of the peninsula have at their disposal a series of picturesque locations. Teguise (Lanzarote), Santa Cruz de La Palma (La Palma) and Santiago del Teide (Tenerife) combine the excellent Canarian climate with the tranquility of the towns.

Cádiz, a timeless attraction
It is true that the Phoenicians did not choose a random location to discover the very first great city of the West. Cádiz is all about colour, joviality, celebration and, of course, warmth. With average temperatures that rarely drop below 11 degrees Celsius, Cádiz is a haven for those who refuse to associate winter with cold weather. Of course, the varied -and lively- collection of pubs and tapas bars that symbolise the beautiful old town of Cádiz helps one forget the cold completely. All this together with the attractive prices of the real estate market make Cádiz a highly desirable city.

Seville and Córdoba, the twin cities of the sun
It is impossible to think of Seville and Cordoba without feeling the touch of the sun on your skin. The Andalusian capital has lower temperatures and it is not at all usual that the average monthly temperature falls below 10 ºC. It is not surprising, therefore, to always see the locals enjoying their Sevillian terraces, even when the rest of the Peninsula residents are putting on their scarves and jackets. In Cordoba, the arrival of winter does not go hand in hand with the cold except for the Christmas decoration of its famous courtyards. If some days are just too hot, you can always recover from the heatwave with a milky coffee in any of the beautiful squares of Cordoba, such as La Corredera.

Alicante, the city by the sea
Between 10 ºC and 26 ºC, it is the pleasantly mild temperatures that explain why life in the outdoors is so embedded in the character of the people of Alicante. The second largest city of the Valencian Community has a wide extension of beaches, including Postiguet and Albufereta. On these beaches it is possible to find people swimming in the sea at any time of the year. Alicante also has one of the most popular real estate markets of the Mediterranean coast, with a catalogue of properties that includes any type of housing and a wide range of prices.

Salou, Costa Dorada and Reus
Costa Dorada is one of the most established tourist resorts in Spain. One reason that explains its popularity among the foreign visitors is its optimal climate. Salou, for example, is a town that invites you to enjoy the sea and its well-known recreational offer, with numerous real estate options for all tastes. In the rest of the Costa Dorada you can find other strategic locations to avoid the chilly winter, such as Vilaseca, Calafell, El Vendrell and Cambrils. In the region of Bajo Campo, Reus stands out the most. It is a vibrant town throughout the year and is very close to the Tarragona capital.
