Santa Margarita Park is geographically located in the middle of the urbanized city of La Coruña. It is one of the largest parks and is home to diverse flora and fauna. The park has an invigorating scent of old woodland from eucalyptus and pine trees.
According to the park’s official records, there are at least 70 species of trees thriving in the area, some of which do not grow locally. The most popular species of trees include oaks, cypresses, elms, yews, mimosas, and magnolia trees.
The park rises to a hilly area of about 60 metres above sea level, where an old windmill still stands today surrounded by a pond for ducks and geese. The park also has a children's play area, an outdoor amphitheatre, a service building, a large artificial waterfall, and an opera house.
House of Sciences is a 3-story museum with an interactive exhibition. The first floor features scientific principles in action, technology, and topics of natural sciences; the second floor is for non-permanent or visiting exhibits; the 3rd floor displays the latest scientific breakthroughs, and the Planetarium is found in the building's dome.
On the northern edge of the park, is the Opera Palace, home of the Galician Symphony Orchestra, equipped with modern acoustics and state-of-the-art technical equipment. It has a chamber room, conference room, and an exhibition hall.
Surrounding the parks are cafes and restaurants, local Government Offices, churches, and schools. Most of the residential buildings are mid-rise apartment blocks and townhouses. The homes have modern interiors, and the neighbourhood is peaceful and relaxed.
The best feature of the homes in the area is their proximity to the Santa Margarita Park. Taking a walk, going out for a run, or walking the dog can be done very close to home. Fresh breeze and the pine scent of the wooded park brings a calming ambience to the area.
