Monte Alto is a vibrant neighbourhood located in the Northern peninsular sector of La Coruña. This coastal area is filled with historical monuments, buildings featuring Baroque architecture, and Medieval fortresses, and it is also one of the most exclusive areas of La Coruna near the beach.
Residents of the Monte Alto area have the advantage of accessibility to major services, such as restaurants, hospitals, supermarkets, and schools. There are several lush natural parks, pristine beaches, and scenic biking and hiking trails which encourage a healthy and active lifestyle.
Its Playa del Orzan (Orzan Beach) is a prime surfing spot with huge waves and is popular among the locals and tourists during the summer when the waters are calmer and warmer. The clean beach and fine sands are perfect for family picnics, sunbathing, and fun time for the kids.
The area has state of the art sporting facilities located in the Municipal Sports Complex, where friendly competitions and professional tournaments are held regularly.
There are professional coaches available to provide sports lessons to beginners and training to athletes. Campo Municipal de Golf Supera La Torre (Municipal Golf Course Supera La Torre) provides a driving range and putting greens and a nine-holes Pitch & Putt experience with picturesque views of the Tower of Hercules and the blue sea. Cala De La Torre De Hercules (Hercules Tower Creek) offers a beach volleyball venue with a wonderful view of the Tower of Hercules.
Emblematic of the Monte Alto is the Tower of Hercules, a World Heritage Site and the oldest active Roman lighthouse in the world. It has a sculpture park with around 20 sculptures including 10 made by artist Ramón Conde.
Other nearby parks with a view of the Tower of Hercules that provide for leisure and relaxation include Parque Carlos Casares (Carlos Casares Park) and Parque infantil (playground).
Another significant part of the area is the La Coruña Promenade. Known as the longest promenade in Europe, it provides many recreational activities and sightseeing opportunities.
It runs throughout the Monte Alto neighbourhood and provides access to the surrounding suburbs, neighbourhoods, and tourist attractions, including the Aquarium Finisterrae, the city's aquarium, that exhibits diverse marine life species and advocates sea life preservation.
Much of the residential area of Monte Alto is located along the promenade. This strategic location positions the home towards the relaxing views of the sea, creating a bright and sunny interior, with the fresh and invigorating Atlantic breeze all year round. Penthouses and top-floor apartments offer panoramic views of the sparkling blue sea, rolling surfs, the tranquil sandy beaches, and the city skyline at the opposite side of the inlet.
Several restaurants provide dining options in Monte Alto. For sumptuous Galician cuisine and fresh seafood, visit Avenue Navarra, there you will find La Torre, Pulpeira O Fiuza, and Manda Truco. Other local favourites include Adega O Bebedeiro, La Uva Dorada, and Sion De Valais.
For an after-work relaxation with colleagues and friends, there is an active Monte Alto nightlife in the surrounding bars including Los Otros, A Pataca, Recodo 2, and Taberna del Chipirón.
