Ensanche is a highly urbanized area of La Coruña and developed as the old city expanded outside of its walls because of the growing population and commerce. Along the coastal perimeters of the inlet, it has an unobstructed view of the sea and busy port activities.
This is an ideal location where the residential complex coexists with commercial establishments in a mutually beneficial urban ecosystem. Aside from the mild Oceanic weather all year round, the sea breeze sweeps from the port of Coruna to the shores of Orzan, keeping temperatures in Ensanche refreshingly mild even during the summers.
Its unique geographical advantage is further enhanced by the availability of daily living conveniences such as supermarkets, schools, banks, churches, and the recreational amenities such as parks, fitness centres, museums, bars, and restaurants. Strategically placed near residential areas are major bus stops, while taxis are always available as alternative public transport.
As commonly found in port cities, the homes on Ensanche features double-glazed glass windows, full-length glass walls, outdoor terraces, and wide balconies to capture the calming view of the ocean and to take advantage of the sunshine. Many residential buildings have elevators, central heating, parking spaces, and access for people with limited mobility.
Favourite dining spots are Samaná, a French-Galician fusion restaurant, Pandelino, for a selection of pastries, Casa Rita, for a dinner of steak and wine, La Pepita for burgers and beers, and Barlovento for varied vegan options. Neighbourhood pubs such as El Pato Mareao, Roots, and O Sibarita are the common venues for after-work relaxation and meeting with friends.
The well-maintained streets of Ensanche are ideal for afternoon walks or morning runs. The area’s green parks such as Plaza de Vigo (Vigo Square), Plaza de Ourense (Ourense Square), and Plaza de Galicia (Galicia Square) offer venues for the children to play and the adults to relax and read the papers.
