One of the two most popular beaches in the entire province, Praia de Riazor is a beautiful urban beach located in the heart of A Coruña City. It features a wide crescent shore with white sand and pristine blue waters with far-reaching shallow depths conducive to bathing and swimming. A spacious promenade for walking or cycling runs the entire length of the beach, and is lined with trees and a few restaurants and bars. Praia de Riazor offers many amenities, including restrooms, showers and sunbeds for hire.

Playa del Orzán

The other most notable beach in La Coruña is Playa del Orzán. Spanning nearly a kilometer in length, with a slightly-crescent shore, and waters that make it a popular surfing haven, this Blue Flag beach is separated from Praia de Riazor by a large observation deck, the Coiraza do Orzán, which protrudes from the promenade to the shoreline. The observation deck is home to the Monumento ós Heroes do Orzán, a gigantic artwork and a popular attraction.

Playa del Orzán is best known for surfing, swimming, sunbathing or playing volleyball. Amenities are plenty, including lifeguard posts, restrooms, showers, volleyball nets and sunbeds for hire. Towards the end of the beach is another observation deck. Albeit smaller, this one features a large sculpture of surfers, the Fonte dos Surfistas, set in a pool and fountain that allows it to mimic actual surfers.

Praia do Matadoiro / Playa de Matadoiro

A small beach-cove beside Playa del Orzán, Praia do Matadoiro is tucked into a corner below Rúa Matadoiro. At the back is a high wall with a long set of steps from the street above. Because of its location, the beach offers far-reaching shallow waters with gentle waves, making it safe for even children to bathe or swim. Beside the beach is La Sirena del Orzán, a sculpture of a mermaid perched on top of large rocks.

Praia das Lapas / Playa de Lapas

With its picturesque surroundings and narrow strip of ocean leading towards fine, white sand, Praia das Lapas can be considered one of La Coruña’s most beautiful and unique beaches. It is located at the foot of the Tower of Hercules, an ancient Roman lighthouse set on a peninsula. All around the beach is a wide expanse of greenery, and a hiking trail which passes by various monuments until you reach the Rosa dos Ventos scenic platform at the edge of the peninsula. Praia das Lapas is also near the Aquarium Finisterrae, making the beach a perfect stop after a long day of exploring the nature-rich area. Visitors may also take their dogs to the beach, or even with them on a walk.

Praia de Area Grande / Playa de Area Grande

Located near the A Coruña Port Authority, Praia de Area Grande is a small and quiet cove with surroundings that give it a countryside look and feel. The cove is not well-known, and most of its visitors are usually residents from the area. Praia de Area Grande’s main takeaway, however, is its warm waters that are pleasant to bathe, swim and relax in.

Praia Vilela / Playa Vilela

A narrow road winding through thick forests and large, green fields leads to this secluded beach in the town of O Barqueiro. Praia Vilela may not be easy to access, but upon reaching it, visitors will find fine, white and soft sand perfect for lounging or strolling through while barefoot. The calm, azure waters make for a relaxing dip in serene ambiance.

Praia de Bares

Curving south from the town of O Porto de Bares is a beach featuring a narrow shore. Praia de Bares has two distinct parts: the inner curve fronting the town, where beach bars and restaurants are in close proximity, and the long semi-crescent area whose shore is heavily lined with trees. Praia de Bares is especially ideal for long walks, although the waters are also safe to swim even for children.

Praia do Esteiro / Playa de Esteiro

Situated in the coastal town of Esteiro, Praia do Esteiro boasts of a distinct landscape, with a shore that extends further inland through a natural gray dune habitat. A boardwalk was constructed in order to preserve the dunes, and a tidal creek is also located nearby. The waters present sizeable waves idyllic for surfing. Behind the shore are plenty of trees; a boardwalk running through them leads to a few restaurants within the scenic landscape. Surrounding the beach are various hiking trails, as well as an observation deck, the Mirador Playa de Esteiro.

Praia Fábrega / Playa Fábrega

A challenging trek through rocky inclines and grassy slopes leads to this coastal haven boasting a breathtaking landscape. Crystal clear waters with soft waves, shores with soft, white sand, and panoramic views of the ocean and lush greenery comprise Praia Fábrega’s natural splendor. People who want to visit this beach are advised not to bring kids, however, as the trek can be quite difficult—ending with a steep slope where visitors would have to utilize a provided rope in order to get to the beach.

Praia de San Antonio / Playa de San Antonio

This peaceful and scenic beach-cove can be found in the peninsular town of O Porto de Espasante. Praia de San Antonio is a lovely place for sunbathing and picnicking on the shore while enjoying ocean views, and spectacular sunsets. The water current in this beach can be quite strong, so swimming—especially for inexperienced swimmers—might be dangerous.

Praia de Espasante / Playa de Espasante

The peninsular town’s main beach, Praia de Espasante, is situated right next to the town’s marina. All around it are hills and vast green plains adding to the beach’s unspoilt natural beauty. The beach features smooth, white sand and blue, placid waters. Beachgoers can enjoy a trip on the small boats for hire in the marina. A quaint wooden boardwalk takes visitors from the beach and through the green plains, to some restaurants located nearby.

Praia de Morouzos / Playa de Morouzos

This long beach of over 2 kilometers in length is shared by the neighboring towns of O Mosteiro and Miñano. Praia de Morouzos differs from the usual beaches in La Coruña in that it has grayish-black sand (not the usual white or golden sand). The waves are gentle, however, and the water very clean, making it adequate for swimming and bathing, even for the kids. Complete amenities can be found on this beach, including showers, toilets, lifeguard posts, and public parking. During low tide, beachgoers can take a fun stroll to the small island of San Vicente on the right hand side.

Praia de Fornos / Playa de Fornos

Across Praia de Morouzos, located in the town of Figueiroa, is a small beach set between two headlands. Praia de Fornos has gained some popularity due to its beautiful scenery which showcases a mix of green forests, clear waters and large, rocky outcrops jutting out into the sea. Beachgoers can snorkel in here, swim in the calm waters, or lounge in the sand. Showers and restrooms are located on-site, and lifeguards oversee beach activity.

Praia da Madalena – Praia de Santo Isidro

These two beaches in the town of Cedeira share one long shore stretching for more than a kilometer. While Praia da Madalena features wide-ranging shallow waters conducive for bathing and swimming, Praia de Santo Isidro has deeper waters with a moderate waves and currents. The latter, therefore, is better for surfers and people practising water sports.

Praia de Vilarrube / Playa de Vilarrube

Situated within the towns of San Xiao and As Ferrerías, Praia de Vilarrube is a sheltered beach-cove and one of La Coruña’s hidden gems. Because of its orientation, the beach is a secluded spot with a tranquil ambiance and plenty of space to sunbathe, stroll and swim. It is near the river, Río das Mestas, and the thickly-forested Punta Robaleira nearby offers camping grounds for visitors. Near the beach is a lighthouse, the Faro da Robaleira, with scenic views of the ocean.

Praia do Rodo Ou de Pantín / Playa de Pantín

Between the towns of O Rodo and O Freixo is Praia do Rodo Ou de Pantín, or simply Praia de Pantín. It is a relatively peaceful beach with few visitors except during the Pantín Classic Surfing Competition held at the end of August each year. The beach boasts large waves suitable for surfing, as well as golden-sand shores for sunbathing or playing beach games. Nearby is the Alawa Surf Camp offering surfing classes.

Praia da Frouxeira / Playa de Frouxeira

Boasting an impressive 2.6 kilometers, Praia da Frouxeira is an expansive beach popular among the many towns around it. The semi-warm waters offer moderate waves and some shallow areas, making it safe for swimming while still suitable for casual surfing and water sports. When in the area, beachgoers can visit and explore Lagoa da Frouxeira, a freshwater lake situated just behind the shore. There is an adequate selection of restaurants close by, with one located immediately beside the beach.

Praia de Campelo / Playa de Campelo

Though small, this beach is popular with surfers, both novice and experienced, due to the sizeable waves. The water can be pretty cold for those who simply want to bathe or swim, however the beach makes for an idyllic spot to relax and enjoy the sunset. There are public restrooms towards the back, as well as public parking.

Praia de Ponzos / Playa de Ponzos

Praia de Ponzos is a sizeable beach that offers abundant green surroundings, golden sands and strong waves ideal for surfing. The Ermida de Santa Comba chapel is located on a small headland to the left of the shore, while at the foot of the beach are the remains of an abandoned gold mine.

Playa de Santa Comba

Just a few hundred meters from Praia de Ponzos is Playa de Santa Comba, a beach well-known by locals in the area for its spectacular beauty. The beach boasts of picturesque surroundings with grassy outcrops, fine, golden sands, and heavy foliage. On the left-hand side of the beach the land extends towards a peninsula. On the right is the Ermida de Santa Comba, a lovely chapel set on a small headland.

Praia de San Xurxo

Another beach known for its natural splendor is Praia de San Xurxo. With nearly two kilometers of shoreline, the beach possesses a white, sandy shore, azure waters and scenic hilly surroundings. Beachgoers get to enjoy gorgeous sunsets and lovely strolls along the shore on the soft, white sand. The waters are safe for swimming and bathing, but the most popular activity at this beach is windsurfing.

Praia de Doniños / Playa de Doniños

Near the town of O Outeiro is a long stretch of sandy beach with soft, white sand and beautiful views all around. Though mostly serene and quiet, this beach is popular with water sports enthusiasts during summer as the amiable winds and spacious waters provide an ideal setting for surfing and windsurfing. Behind the beach is Lagoa de Doniños, a large and clean freshwater lake. There are also a few restaurants nearby, as well as one Chiringuito situated on the shores of the beach.

Praia de Ares – Praia de Seselle – Praia do Raso

From the town of Ares all the way to the town of Mazaído is an extensive stretch of crescent-shaped shoreline. These shores are home to three beaches: Praia de Ares beside the Ares Port, the family-friendly Praia de Seselle in the middle, and Praia do Raso, a peaceful beach ending near the Punta Camouco headland. These beaches offer a variety of amenities such as restrooms, showers, lifeguard posts (with plenty of active lifeguards especially during the summer), and ample public parking. There are even volleyball nets in some areas, as well as children’s playgrounds on the sand. In Praia de Ares, in particular, beachgoers are allowed to bring their dogs for a walk or even a swim. There are also plenty of restaurants and beach bars to choose from—making these three beaches a wonderful place for the whole family.

Playa Magdalena

With a shore facing both the sea and a river (Río Eume), Playa Magdalena is a beach with abundant aquatic views and a diverse environment. Located in the town of Magdalena, it is a peaceful beach with plenty of Chiringuitos lining behind the shore. The gentle waters make for safe swimming and bathing, while the rows of beach bars and restaurants offer a dining experience with lovely views.

Praia de Ber / Playa de Ber

This small beach-cove features what may be the calmest waters in the province of La Coruña, with hardly any waves at all. This unique characteristic makes Praia de Ber a very quiet and serene beach ideal for those who want to relax, meditate or disconnect from the world for a short while. Behind the beach is a spacious campsite, Camping Ber, offering cabins for rent and places where visitors can pitch their tents.

Praia de Perbes

In the town of Perbes, there is a beach that is often visited for its warm, soothing waters. Praia de Perbes owes its signature warm seawater to its orientation—being sheltered from the cold winds. Visitors looking to bathe in the sea are advised to wear beach shoes or slippers to avoid the discomfort of the many pebbles and smooth stones that make up the ocean floor.

Praia de Lago / Playa de Lago

Praia de Lago is a very small beach, measuring a little over 100 meters and is situated near the large and popular Praia Grande de Miño. This little beach-cove is known for its warm waters, but again you are advised to wear beach shoes due to the smooth stones and pebbles on the sea floor. It has a peaceful ambiance ideal for a meditative relaxation. At the end of the beach are a set of stairs that lead to a campsite, Camping Miño dos Playas.

Praia Grande de Miño / Playa Grande de Miño

Measuring 1.3 kilometers in length, Praia Grande de Miño is an expansive beach in the town of Bañobre, facing the Bañobre Bay. Its shores are spacious, with rows of benches positioned at the back, perfect for beachgoers who want to sit and relax while enjoying the fresh sea breeze and scenic view. It is considered by many as one of the most beautiful beaches in the whole Galician region, with fine, golden sands, crystal clear waters and rich vegetation in the background. The beach also offers complete amenities including showers, restrooms, lifeguard posts and a First Aid station. There is ample free parking, a restaurant on the beach, and a campsite located nearby.

Playa Gandario

This quaint beach features a wide shore with a narrow wooden boardwalk running across its length. Many people opt to take a casual stroll, walk their dogs or jog in the early morning on the boardwalk, as it offers lovely views of the sea and the surrounding thick, green foliage. Playa Gandario is known for its winds, which are suited for surfing, sailing and windsurfing; in the summer, a portion of the sea is even occupied by those taking sailing or windsurfing lessons. The soft, white sand make it a fun place for children to play, and there is also a picnic area with stone tables and benches that beachgoers can use.

Praia de Mera / Playa de Mera

Facing the Mera Bay, Praia de Mera is an urban beach located in the town of Serantes. Abundant vegetation can be found behind the golden-sand shores, and the waters feature a wide shallow area with moderate waves. The beach can get quite busy during the summer, especially with the many bars and restaurants located on the seafront. Faro de Mera lighthouse is nearby, and visitors can take a hike towards this landmark to see breathtaking views.

Praia de Alba / Playa de Alba

On the other side of the main port of A Coruña City—after the small cove of Praia de Area Grande—is Praia de Alba, a tranquil beach with dazzling white sands and azure waters. It is known for gorgeous sunsets, as well as a very pretty landscape. Tide pools holding colorful stones can be found all around, and a small sandbar a few meters into the water adds to the beach’s overall charm.

Praia de Razo / Playa de Razo

Regarded by many as one of La Coruña’s most beautiful and high-quality beaches, Praia de Razo is situated right beside Praia del Baldaio, and has an equally impressive shore length of 1.8 kilometers. This Blue Flag beach provides complete amenities such as lifeguard posts, a First Aid station, restrooms, showers and ample public parking. There are also beach volleyball nets on-site, and even giant artworks of various animals along the shore. The beach’s waves make it conducive for surfing, water skiing and other water sports, while still enjoyable for swimming and bathing. A surf camp is located nearby, as well as a variety of beach bars and restaurants ideal for a quick drink or a meal.

Praia de Area Maior / Playa de Area Maior

Located in the town of Malpica, on the opposite side of the town’s port, is a quaint beach in a rustic and hilly environment. Very calm waters, soft sand, and a peaceful ambiance all add to Praia de Area Maior’s charm. A promenade behind the shore is lined with some restaurants and cafés where patrons have a clear and lovely view of the sunset and the horizon.

Praia de Balarés

In the spacious and largely forested town of Balarés is a beach-cove sheltered by two large headlands. Praia de Balarés has a shore mixed with an area dominated by sand dunes. Though small, it offers a stand-out feature: a beautiful pine forest situated behind the beach, where people can take a relaxing stroll or even have a picnic while enjoying the cool air and tranquil atmosphere. The Chiringuito Balarés can be found at the side of the shore.

Praia de Rebordelo – Praia de San Pedro

Separating these two coves is the Punta da Catuxa headland, and surrounding them are large forests and wide expanses of lush greenery. Measuring less than 200 meters each, both Praia da Rebordelo and Praia de San Pedro are small, but very charming and quaint. White and soft sandy shores gently slope into turquoise waters suitable for swimming and bathing. These beaches are an idyllic setting for a quiet retreat or vacation.

Praia de Laxe / Playa de Laxe

With more than a kilometer of perfectly crescent-shaped coastline, Praia de Laxe is a spectacular beach shared by the towns of Laxe and Os Peñascales. The Laxe Port is situated immediately beside the beach, so many sailboats and yachts can be seen bobbing in the calm waters. Because it is set deep within a recess between two large portions of land, the waters are calm—with almost no waves—making it ideal for sailing and bathing. The wide shores and soft, white sand allow for lovely strolls on the beach, while the many beach bars and restaurants behind the shore offer places where beachgoers can have a meal or a drink while enjoying the beach views.

Praia de Soesto / Playa de Soesto

Set in the richly green town of Soesto, this beach is known for its wild and high waves which can even border on dangerous for swimmers. Because of this, Praia de Soesto has become a favorite among adventurous surfers and many can be seen practicing or holding surf-offs especially during the summer. The wide shore and green surroundings also make it a lovely place to sunbathe or just lounge in the sand.

Praia de Traba / Playa de Traba

Praia de Traba is an extensive beach, running at more than 2 kilometers in shore length. Similar to Praia de Soesto, the water current is strong, and with big waves more suited for surfing rather than swimming. The long shore with soft sand, however, are ideal for long walks on the beach while taking in the fresh sea breeze. Behind the beach is Lagoa de Traba, a large freshwater lake surrounded by green fields and picturesque views of nearby hills.

Praia do Lago / Playa de Lago

Boasting exceptional views and nearby attractions such as the Faro de Lago lighthouse and two forested campsites, Praia do Lago is a splendid place for the whole family. The 600-meter shoreline features fine, white sand that shifts in gradient as it approaches the back of the beach, with rich vegetation and thick forests. The waters have moderate waves and a gentle current that makes it safe for swimming and bathing. Beachgoers can take a short trek to the lighthouse and enjoy the panoramic views, or pitch a tent in any of the two nearby campsites.

Praia de Nemiña – Praia de Lires

These two beaches between the towns of Nemiña and Santo Estevo de Lires have a combined total length of 1.5 kilometers. They are characterized by gentle sloping white-sand shores, with smooth, large rocks scattered across the area. Beside Praia de Lires is a wide and scenic estuary where waters from the winding Río de Lires gather and flow into the ocean—in fact, the beach’s shore faces both the sea and the estuary. The two beaches have waters that are ideal for both surfers and swimmers and a surfing school can be found near Praia de Nemiña.

Praia do Rostro / Playa de Rostro

Situated near countryside dotted with small, sparsely populated towns, is Praia do Rostro, a large yet relatively secluded beach. At nearly 2 kilometers in length, the beach provides ample space for visitors to set up lounging chairs, beach towels or picnic blankets and relax on the sand without having to worry about crowds even during the peak of summer. The strong currents and high waves make for an amazing surfing experience. All around, Praia do Rostro showcases unspoilt natural beauty, with lush greenery and views of surrounding hills and forests. It also has a spacious parking area behind the shore.

Praia da Langosteira / Playa de Langosteira

Boasting an impressive 1.75-kilometer long shoreline, Praia da Langosteira is an extensive urban beach with a slightly crescent shape. It is situated next to Cape Finisterre, or Fisterra, in the town of the same name. Fine, white sand and crystalline waters make this beach widely popular among many locals and tourists alike, with some even considering it one of the most beautiful beaches in Galicia. Aside from its natural splendor, Praia da Langosteira provides complete amenities such as restrooms, showers, access ramps to the beach, public parking, lifeguard posts and a First Aid station. Praia de Sardiñeiro – Praia de Restrelo – Praia de Estorde

Each measuring nearly half a kilometer in length, Praia de Sardiñeiro and Praia de Estorde are found on opposite sides of a wide, forested headland—both facing the Bay of Sardiñeiro. Tucked in a small recess within this headland is Praia de Restrelo, a tiny cove of only 85 meters featuring placid waters where some fishermen prefer to cast their nets. Praia de Sardiñeiro and Praia de Estorde are both quiet and peaceful beaches with gentle waves and white shores. On both beaches are a few Chiringuitos or beach bars, while further beyond Praia de Estorde is a spacious campsite offering cabins for rent.

Playa de Gures

Playa de Gures is a small, sheltered beach in the town of the same name. Its shore, though narrow, features spectacular white fine sand. Behind the shore is a thick foliage of trees and abundant vegetation that make up most of the surrounding area. The waters are very clean and calm—with a pleasant temperature—making them safe for children to swim and bathe. Beachgoers can bring their dogs to this beach and let them play in the sand or swim in the waters as well. Because it is heavily sheltered by trees, Playa de Gures can be a little hard to find, giving it the ambiance of a hidden paradise.

Praia do Ézaro / Playa de Ézaro

With shores that face both the sea—on the Bay of Ézaro—and the Xallas River, Praia do Ézaro presents a unique beach setting with breathtaking views all around. Wide shores boast of fine, white sand, with a spacious promenade running parallel to the beach. Restaurants and beach bars are situated along the promenade, as well as benches facing the sea, where visitors can enjoy the picturesque sunsets. Amenities provided are very clean and well-maintained, including restrooms, showers, a drinking fountain, lifeguard towers and volleyball nets. On the other side of the shore is Xallas River, and just a few hundred meters from here is a beautiful waterfall. Many often visit and bathe in the cool waters cascading down the smooth rocks.

Praia do Pindo / Playa de Pindo

Praia do Pindo is a small beach-cove with a shore that extends further inland than most beaches. Because of this, beachgoers get to choose a spot they want to relax and sunbathe in that is either nearer or further away from the ocean’s waves. There are a few rocky outcrops on the sea, but otherwise, the waters are crystal clear and calm, with plenty of shallow areas to safely swim and bathe. While there are no Chiringuitos on the beach itself, there are a few hotels and bars in the small town nearby.

Praia de Carnota / Playa de Carnota

Spanning an astounding 5 kilometers in shore length, Praia de Carnota is the longest beach in the province of La Coruña, and one of the largest in the whole of Galicia. Its white, sandy shores are backed by a sizeable area of sand dunes, and beyond that are expansive green fields and trees. The nearest town is more than a kilometer away, giving the beach a tranquil ambiance and exclusive feel. There are shallow parts in the water that are safe for kids to swim and play, while there is also a good portion of the sea that is ideal for water sports and more experienced swimmers.

There are multiple access paths to reach the beach coming from the different towns behind it, though the fastest way would be from the town of Mallou. Even while still on the access paths, visitors could already see and marvel at the panoramic views of distant mountains, thick forests and the azure Atlantic Ocean. Aside from its gorgeous views and serene ambiance, Praia de Carnota is also equipped with various amenities and services such as restrooms, showers, lifeguard posts and volleyball nets—making this beach an idyllic setting in La Coruña for the whole family.
