About Plaza Fábrica de Tabacos Lifestyle and Real Estates Options

Literally translating to “tobacco factory square”, Plaza Fábrica de Tabacos is situated in the Cuatro Caminos area, and aptly named as it is where the old Tabacalera compound stood. The Council of Coruña rehabilitated the area by tearing down the old tobacco enclosures back in 2006, in order to give way to new establishments both for residential and commercial purposes. The area now has a developing hospitality market, with many local hotels, restaurants and bars catering to businessmen and tourists alike.

The plaza enjoys a convenient and central location (its proximity to the Port of A Coruña is only 15 minutes by foot) and a wide array of major establishments such as banks and hospitals. Likewise, several government offices including the Fiscalia Menores (City Courthouse), Jefatura Provincial de Tráfico (Transportation and Driver’s License Office) and the Instituto Social de la Marina (Navy Social Services) are situated nearby.

Because of the many government offices and residential and commercial establishments, the plaza has a large underground parking area located next to a small public park with a garden and benches. The plaza’s main square consists of a large rectangular lawn crisscrossed by stone footpaths, with a few trees and bushes, and red brick pavement surrounding its perimeter. To the side of the square are benches and a bicycle rack. Cafés facing the square offer outdoor seating and are frequented by parents who—while lounging—can watch their kids enjoying the plaza’s playground.
