The via ferrata of Cala Molí is located by the sea, located in the town of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, on the Costa Brava and is the first via ferrata built on the coastal cliffs in Europe.
What is a via ferrata?
A via ferrata is a vertical as well as horizontal itinerary equipped with various materials: nails, staples, holds, handrails, chains, suspension bridges and zip lines, which allow you reach safely areas that are difficult to access for hikers or those not used to climbing. Safety is provided by a steel cable installed along the entire track and the harness provided with an energy dissipator and special via ferrata carabiners (marked with a k) that secure in the event of a fall.1 The classic via ferrata area is found in the Dolomites, the Italian Alps, although we also find a lot of them in France, Switzerland, Germany and increasingly in Spain.
On the route of the Cala del Molí via ferrata in the province of Girona there are steps, cabled bridges and iron bars that help to complete the route. By means of a horizontal cabling system, you are assured at all times and you can enjoy the landscape, the fauna and the different panoramic views from the Costa Brava.
The environment is unique always surrounded by water and the legitimate inhabitants of the rocks, the seagulls in an area included within the "Pla d'Espais d'Interès Natural de Catalunya".
The difficulty ranges from K2, the easiest route to K4, the most complex route (or even K5 if you do the climbing section called Escalafell).
It takes approximately 2 hours to complete the tour. Due to its uniqueness, sometimes it is overcrowded, so it is recommended to go early for example at 8:30 or 9 a.m. you have to go to the rhythm of who you have in front of.
