Blanes is a Mediterranean and fishing village with an authentic spirit that belongs to the region of La Selva in Gerona, Catalonia, Spain.
It is known as the "Gateway to the Costa Brava". Its coastline is part of the Costa Brava, which extends from Blanes to the French border.
Blanes is a city with quality and variety of rest, leisure, beaches, culture for all ages. We also recommend to visit one of the most beautiful gardens on the shores of the Mediterranean. On the cliffs that border the sea you can contemplate the most spectacular panoramic views of the coast. The wonderful botanical garden of Blanes "MariMurtra", which is considered the best Mediterranean botanical garden in Europe.
It covers almost 15 hectares of land with more than 4000 different species of mostly exotic plants, as well as a good number of extraordinary specimens due to their age or dimensions. Marimurtra is the work of a man with a passion for nature. Carl Faust (Hadamar, Germany 1874 - Blanes 1952), a businessman established in Catalonia, dedicated his illusion, his effort and all his patrimony to the realization of his dream, the Marimurtra Botanical Garden.
Marimurtra offers a wide variety of outdoor spaces where to live unique experiences such as guided tours, technical workshops, yoga, tasting of slow food products, show cooking, cooking classes, botanical vermouth, botanical snorkeling, concerts "Les Nits de Marimurtra" etc. etc..
Another beautiful garden on the outskirts of the town is the "Pinya de Rosa", which consists of more than 7000 species of plants from around the world, among the most prominent as aloes, agaves, cacti and opuntias. The garden reaches the quiet cove S'Agulla.
The city offers endless activities of all kinds and sports clubs, including the renowned Blanes Sailing Club "Club de Vela", founded in 1943, which has since evolved to become one of the most important sailing clubs on the Costa Brava .
The promenade is extensive and is home to several restaurants and bars. Among all the specialized restaurants, you will find all kinds of culinary offerings, from Catalan-Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Mexican, Dutch, Greek, Chinese, among others.
