Thun Licence Area – Facts & Figures

The city of Thun is the gateway to the Bernese Oberland and is located at the bottom end of Lake Thun. The historical old town, in the centre of which towers the 12th-century castle with its museum, is located about one kilometre from the lakeshore on the Aare. Thun is both a place to live and work and a holiday destination, and offers a wide range of entertainment.

Engel & Völkers is already well represented in the surrounding regions with its locations in Bern, Biel and Solothurn. Another location in Thun would have a positive effect on the cross-selling and supply system of Engel & Völkers in the greater Bern area, and even nationally, which in turn can have a profitable effect on the company's own sales figures. With its approximately 66,000 owner-occupied households, the licence area Thun offers a sales potential of over CHF 4 million.

Thun – historical city surrounded by mountains and lakes

In Thun, there is an attractive combination of mountains and lakes and historical and contemporary buildings. The city of Thun is lively and quiet at the same time. Here you can discover culture ranging from the curious to the classical. Marvel at the many stories on the city tour. Picturesque alleys with boutiques invite you to take a stroll and shop. Afterwards you can linger for a while in a nice café directly on the Aare river. Thun, the gateway to the Bernese Oberland, is your ideal starting point for a variety of excursions and experiences.

The mixing of residential and commercial spaces and its central location, with a variety of nightlife options in the immediate vicinity, also lend Thun’s old town a special attractiveness as a place to live.

Real estate market – demand exceeds supply

In the city of Thun, too, demand is exceeding supply. The real estate offered on the market is very diverse – detached houses, renovated city properties, modern terrace flats and second flats with access to good infrastructure are all looking for buyers here. Interested parties are willing to pay market-typical prices for the property they want, although these have recently risen by around 2% for houses and around 3% for flats. The offered prices for rentals are also about 2% higher than in the past year. In the charming and manageable city of Thun, with its attractive seafront and good connections to Bern, Interlaken and Lucerne, property prices will continue to rise due to the scarcity of supply. This also applies to communities that are close to the city and have a view of the lake, such as Hilterfingen and Oberhofen.

Most sought-after locations

The Engel & Völkers licence area of Thun extends from Adelboden in the Bernese Oberland to the municipality of Wald (BE). In addition to the city of Thun, which offers a good infrastructure for families with its numerous playgrounds, kindergartens and school buildings, the lake communities of Hilterfingen and Oberhofen, which are close to the city, are among the most attractive communities in the region. In the second home market, Adelboden must certainly be mentioned as a very sought-after destination.
