How delightful! Winter adventures in Tyrol and Salzburg Land
There is much more to experience in Tyrol and Salzburg Land in winter besides the ski slopes. Join us in discovering some fantastic day trips in the regions of Kitzbühel, Zell am See, Mittersill, Innsbruck, Zillertal, and Seefeld. Whether you're outdoors in the snow or indoors on exciting adventures—you can be sure to fulfil your winter dreams in this region.
Our first recommendation takes you to the heart of Tyrol: to Lake Achensee, the biggest lake in Tyrol. Surrounded by the majestic Karwendel and Rofan Mountains, this crystal-clear lake is transformed into a true winter wonderland in the chilly season. Rangers organise fascinating guided nature walks. You have the opportunity to follow animals' trails, use your binoculars to make exciting discoveries, and experience how plants and animals adapt to the different seasons.
Another unique natural wonder can be found just a short distance away on the Hinterux Glacier in the Zillertal. Nature's Ice Palace is a natural ice cave. Marvel at gigantic icicles, enormous sparkling ice crystals, and frozen waterfalls. It is even possible to take a boat trip on a glacial lake in the cave.
If you prefer a more leisurely pace, we recommend a visit to the BrauKunstHaus in Zell am Ziller. Spanning a space of more than 5,000 square metres, a multimedia tour provides fascinating insights into the oldest private brewery in Tyrol. Of course you get a chance to sample the beer to round off the tour!
The Kitzbühel region — sophisticated and elegant, boasting a unique mountain backdrop. The ski slopes around the Hahnenkamm and the famous Streif speak for themselves, but the region has a lot more to offer in winter.
Art from Kitzbühel
Do you know Kitzbühel’s most famous artist, Alfons Walde? The Museum of Kitzbühel has dedicated a permanent exhibition to his work. His pictures of snow-capped mountains that look like they are made of cotton wool fetch record prices. One of Walde's achievements included designing the Hahnenkamm cable car.
At the foot of the Wilder Kaiser in Kirchdorf you will find the Wilder Käser cheese dairy, featuring a 500-year-old farmhouse. Across an area of over 400 square metres, you can learn all about the production of the finest Tyrolean cheeses—every day, 1,200 litres of the purest hay milk are carefully transformed into cheese specialities. It goes without saying that you should not miss out on tasting the cheese!
Majestic animals and enchanting mythical creatures light up the Hofgarten in Innsbruck's historic centre: until the end of January, "Lumagica" delightfully transforms the historic grounds into an illuminated wonderland. Seefeld Kurpark also captivates visitors with atmospheric illuminations in the darker months of the year.
