Positioned on the road leading from Varese to Vergiate, the municipality of Mornago includes the hamlets of Crugnola, Montonate, and Vinago. These were autonomous municipalities until 1869 when they were merged into the municipality of Mornago by Royal Decree on February 14th of that year. In the 13th century, it took on the name Mornago, and through subsequent changes, it arrived at the present-day Mornago. The church of San Michele still serves as the parish church today, but it seems not to be derived from the medieval one; instead, it was likely built in the 15th century, as evidenced by its Baroque style. Originally an agricultural economy until the early 20th century, Mornago later experienced considerable industrial development, especially in the textile and clothing sectors, as well as in mechanical and chemical industries. It is very close to the center of the provincial capital, Varese, and the highway to Milan. The Malpensa International Airport is located 18 km away. The Swiss border is easily reachable by covering a distance of 30 km. The shores of Lake Maggiore are just 12 km away.
