Claus Grünert has been working as an engineer in the real estate industry for over 20 years and has been supporting Engel & Völkers as an expert in real estate valuation and analysis for over two years. “My job is to support both clients and estate agents when it comes to assessing new properties,” he explains. His responsibilities range from assessing the renovation costs of historic half-timbered houses to analyzing damage. “It's important to know what actually needs to be renovated and what doesn't.”
His career began in 2003 with a degree in civil engineering and a specialization in architecture. “My father was a civil engineer, so my interest in construction projects and architecture has been with me from an early age,” he says. Claus Grünert came to Engel & Völkers through a collaboration with Clara and Christian Kretzmann. “When the opportunity arose to work with Engel & Völkers on a permanent basis, I accepted. I really enjoy working with the team.”
In addition to his work at Engel & Völkers, he runs his own office in Hattingen. His projects range from Bochum to Frankfurt and beyond. “In my early days, I traveled a lot, which helped me to get to know different building styles and challenges.”
One of the highlights of his work at Engel & Völkers was a half-timbered house in Ennepetal. “Such special properties make the work exciting,” he says. Professionalism and flexibility are essential for Claus Grünert: “On construction sites, things rarely go according to plan. You have to be prepared to react flexibly to new challenges.”
He also remains active in his free time. “I have a carpentry workshop in the basement and build a lot of furniture myself.” One particular project was a chest of drawers made from cubes and rectangles, which he designed with great attention to detail. As for the future, he says: “I'll let myself be surprised. Flexibility has always been part of my philosophy.”
