Grândola
Grândola is a town on the Alentejo coast, which became well known for the song than played on the radio on the eve of the 25th of April as a signal to the more distant military units that they could start their advance on Lisbon. Sung in moments of great excitement or danger, it can now be considered the anthem of the Revolution. Here you can find all the local services such as the Town Hall, Notaries, banks, health centre, health clinics, court, park and sports complex, post office, train and bus station, pharmacies etc.
Culture
In Grândola you can visit several Megalithic monuments, ruins from Roman times and some historical buildings. In Lousal you can visit the Live Science Centre with its industrial archaeology, located in the mining village. Besides the village, the mining village of Lousal includes a dam and two ponds, walking paths and a mining museum.
Grândola Mountains
The Grândola Mountain ranges all the way to Santiago do Cacém and its highest point is about 326 meters high. There are several plots of land and farms on the Serra de Grândola which are inhabited but are not very fertile for agriculture and have been designated for tree cultivation. In the mountains there are several trails for walks where you can enjoy nature in its fullness and breathe pure air.
Handicraft
Pottery, woollen blankets, shepherding art and the construction of thatched huts date back to the past of the municipality's inhabitants due to the cultural diversity in the past habits of the rural, mining and fishing communities, which are still very present today. The hand-painted pieces made of cork are also very characteristic of the region.
