Walloon Brabant: An ideal Belgian province to buy a house

A symbol of economic success and a lush living environment, Walloon Brabant is a Belgian province that is constantly on the rise. With a rich history and beautiful nature, this dynamic region offers buyers of prestigious properties a number of important assets.

An oasis of greenery

Walloon Brabant was created 26 years ago from the division of the province of Brabant as part of the national division of Brussels, Flanders and Wallonia. This small French-speaking province with about 400,000 inhabitants and an area of 1,000 km² is located in the center of Belgium. The lower part rises more than 160 meters above sea level. The province is crossed by three rivers, the Zenne, the Dijle and the Gette, which flow to the north. This green oasis is dotted with forests, woods, parks, estates and green spaces.

A province with a rich history

Walloon Brabant has a great historical and cultural richness. This province has many castles, most of which are open to the public. Each of its municipalities has museums and places dedicated to the region's history. Napoleon also fought his last battles in Walloon Brabant and Waterloo, located about twenty kilometers from Brussels, it is a site that is still very popular with tourists and locals alike.

Wavre, "the city of Maca"

Wavre is the capital of the province of Walloon Brabant. Built nearly 1,000 years ago, this city is popularly known as "the city of Maca" in tribute to its famous statue depicting a young boy (the "Maca") climbing a low wall (touching his buttocks would bring a whole year of happiness! ). Wavre is also on the same territory as the famous Belgian amusement park Walibi, which has welcomed more than 500,000 visitors a year since its creation in 1975.

The richest province in the country!

Walloon Brabant has one district: the municipality of Nivelles. It is the smallest Walloon province, but also the richest in the entire country. One of its cities, Lasne, is also the city with the highest average per capita income in all of Belgium.

75% of the active inhabitants of Walloon Brabant are engaged in a professional activity related to the service sector. The economic prosperity of this province is mainly due to the success of its technology companies. However, the older industries (papermaking, metallurgy, agriculture, etc.) also contribute to maintaining the economy.

A policy focused on ecology

In recent years, Walloon Brabant has implemented new methods that allow it to sustainably exploit its resources and thus protect its natural environment. For example, the Walloon province has invested in several studies on sustainable development conducted at the Catholic University of Leuven, itself considered one of the 150 best universities in the world.
