Consumption certificateWith an area of approximately 20 km2, São Domingos de Rana is one of the four parishes belonging to the Municipality of Cascais, alongside Alcabideche, Cascais-Estoril Union, and Carcavelos-Parede Union. Confirming its remote origin, the settlement of its geographical area contains traces from different periods, from the Paleolithic to the Medieval, passing through the Neolithic/Chalcolithic, Bronze/Iron Age, Roman, and Visigothic eras. The first historical references to the territory date back to the Middle Ages, consisting of two documents, one attesting to the existence of Trajouce at the beginning of the Nationality period and another mentioning, in 1385, a couple in Freiria. The first known census mentioned all the main localities of the parish in 1527. At that time, the Parish of São Domingos de Rana already existed, extending to Albarraque and expanding from 1758 to São Pedro do Estoril. This area was part of the Municipality of Oeiras until 1838 when it became part of the Municipality of Cascais. Four decades ago, its territory was almost exclusively agricultural, with the cultivation of wheat, corn, vegetables, and vineyards prevailing. The major profits came from the extraction of quarry stone, abundant in the area. In 1983, Professor Dr. José d'Encarnação wrote that São Domingos de Rana was "the area richest in cereal culture, gradually threatened by the tentacular advance of urbanization (...). It is also the second-largest industrial concentration area, particularly in Abóboda."
